What I’m Reading | The Darkest Star

I love reading and my favorite books come in a series. This week, I'm starting the new Origin series by Jennifer L Armentrout - the first book is The Darkest Hour. So far, the book is fantastic. I have so many questions and I can't wait for the story to unfold and reveal the answers! If you loved the Lux series, then you HAVE to get on board with the new Origin series, which starts 4 years after Lux ends.

One of my favorite authors is Jennifer L. Armentrout and I've read (and listened) to two of her series more times than I can remember.

Lux Series

There are a couple of more books in this series, but one is from a different point of view (I never like those books) and the other is a prequel that I never got around to reading.

Covenant Series

And now I'm reading the next chapter in the Lux Series, called Origin. So far, the books published include:

If you've read the Lux Series, then you'll recognize the name Luc, an Origin (a child of a Luxen and Hybrid).

“When seventeen-year-old Evie Dasher is caught up in a raid at a notorious club known as one of the few places where humans and the surviving Luxen can mingle freely, she meets Luc, an unnaturally beautiful guy she initially assumes is a Luxen…but he is in fact something much more powerful. Her growing attraction for Luc will lead her deeper and deeper into a world she’d only heard about, a world where everything she thought she knew will be turned on its head…”

Hot Alien Boyfriends Rock!

I love a good series. But not one that's too long (series with 10, 15, 20 or more books never hold my attention). Five books seems to be the perfect number for me. And what I love about the series that I read over and over is the familiarity. You begin to know the characters so well and miss their story. It doesn't matter that I know what's going to happen, I just love it.

The best part of re-reading a series is when it's the second or third time and you can pick up on things that you missed the first time around. Scarlett Dawn, author of the Forever Evermore series, is brilliant at placing loads of Easter eggs in her books that you can only pick up on after having read the series a couple of times.

And the best part of discovering a new series is getting to know a whole new cast of characters.

This new (to me) Origin series is the perfect combination of a new series and rereading an old series. I'm being introduced to new characters and storylines while getting an opportunity to check in on beloved characters to see how their lives are doing.

The Origin Series picks up 3-4 years after the events of Opposition. The world now knows that aliens exist and the Luxen have merged into human life. Precautions have been taken to protect humans from the much stronger alien race and, as a result of the invasion that destroyed 3% of the world's population, there is some alien bigotry/fear that underlines the story.

First Thoughts of The Darkest Hour

I'm a few chapters in and I love what I'm reading. I'm doing the Audible version, which is read by Saskia Maarleveld. Love her voice.

My prediction?

I don't think the main character, Evie, is human; and, if this is the case, she doesn't know it either. Or, if she is human, there's something about her connection to Luc that is going to be mind blowing once revealed. Her last name is familiar (Sergeant Dasher was a character in the Lux series). In the first series (SPOILER ALERT) there was a girl that Luc tried to save from a deadly disease with a formula created by Daedalus. I wonder if this is her.

I guess I'll see soon.
